Michael Gray Griffith

Australians all let us rejoice, for we are now allowed again to hate.

This interview by the PM is the line in the sand where he states Australia will change for ever. Remarkably this is happening without a war, or without us being invaded by a foreign power, or even by the rise of another political ideology, instead many have welcomed it in through fear. A fear of a virus that we have 99.7& or more chance of getting over.

The key words in the interview are, “We will contact them first for their safety.” This is in regard to stores that sell their goods to the unvaccinated people.

For those that can hear it, it is clear what it is.

For those that can’t, there are two camps. There are the ones who don’t want to hear it, for why would you, as it is staggering that it’s true.

And there are the ones who secretly, evaluated what’s happening, and have decided to adapt to the new Australia. These ones have also been granted a new freedom. A freedom that previously we had been trying to contain. The freedom to hate. I would suggest that by doing so they are trying to be seen by whoever they think, or feel are watching, as a true believer.

And to hate what? The virus? No, instead it is to hate those who are not complying. The so called Anti Vaccine.

In the essay by Czechoslovakian Playwright ( ) The power and Powerless, he talks about a shop keeper who regularly puts a sign up in his window. “Workers Unite”

He states that the shop keeper does this because that’s just what you do. The sign could also read, I’m putting this sign up because I fear retribution, for the semantics are the same. But what he believes the shop keeper is actually saying, is, look, I comply, I’m obedient, all I want is a tranquil life, please leave me alone.

In this country now, and probably, currently around the world, it reminds me of the halos people are putting around their profile pictures. Fully vaccinated, you’re welcome. Or for those who are having a tougher time with that, I have a healthy distrust of authority, but I’m still vaccinated.

On the surface, it’s like an army of concerned people uniting nobly to fight the greatest threat to their health since, well, the flu, but is it, instead, for many, capitulation, as they begin to accept what they see to be as inevitable?

A descent into an authoritarian governance, the likes of which our country has never seen?

I was sent a picture from a time just before the wall fell in the USSR.

In it, is a section of the two million plus people who one day held hands in a line that stretched through three countries.

It was a powerful, peaceful display, where millions of people stated, we want to be free. And they meant they wanted the kind of back pocket freedoms we are now giving away, many without a protest.  Some are gift wrapping it.

Will that be us one day, standing arm in arm along the Hume highway, or will it be our children courageously struggling to get back the freedoms we are handing over?

A freedom that including the one which turned out to be one of the most coveted, the right, or freedom, to not roll up your sleeve and tell the authorities, without retribution .  . . No.
